Tome Momirovski (1927)

writer, essayist, and critic. Education: M.A. (1953), Sts. Cyril and
Methodius University (Department of Philosophy), Skopje, Republic of
Macedonia. Has also studied political science in Belgrade, Republic of
Serbia. Has assumed a number of managerial functions in various cultural
institutions and organizations: President of the former Cultural and
Educational Union, former secretary-minister of culture, member of the
former Federal Commission for Cultural Foreign Relations of Yugoslavia,
etc. Has been editor-in-chief of the periodicals Iden kulturen zhivot
and Sovremenost (published in Skopje), of the newspaper Mlad
Borec (Skopje), and of Radio Skopje. Has also been
editor-in-chief of the periodical Kulturan Zhivot, published in
Belgrade. Novels: Nemir (Restlessness), 1960; Greshna
nedela (Sinful Week), 1961; Godini na nesonica (Years of Insomnia),
1972; Whirlpool, 1985; Bela (a novel for children),
1987; Rowboat, 1992; Short story collections: Steps,
1959; Criticism and essays: Relations and Synthesis,
1984; Crossings, 1993; Travelogues: Eaves and Sends,
1956; Picturesque Country, 1996. A selection of his works has been
published in Skopje, in five volumes (Selected Works), 1987. Has
also written some monographs, plays, and radioplays, and he has edited an
anthology. Most of his books have been translated into Serbo-Croatian,
Slovenian, Albanian, and Hungarian. Parts of them have been translated into
Ukrainian, Russian, Greek, German, and English. Awards: (domestic) –
11 Oktomvri, Kliment Ohridski, 13 Noemvri, Kocho
Racin, etc.
