Murat Isaku (1928)

a poet, short story writer, novelist. He lives and works in Tetovo. Graduated from the University in Belgrade. He writes and publishes in Albanian. Short story collections: Prsten na pustelija (Ring in the Wild) 1971; Pletenka (Bridle) 1978; Vetrometina (Open Space) 1982. Novels: Sonceto go znae svojot pat (The Sun Knows Its Way) 1965; Zadocnet ogan (Belated Fire) 1973; Rani (Wounds) 1975; Recki (Lines) 1979; Zed (Thirst) 1982; Damki (Spots) 1986; Bran (Wave) 1989; Izmama (Betrayal) 1991; Nesrekjnici (Miserables) 1995. Poetry: Glas na planina (Voice on the Mountain) 1960; Pladnevni nasmevki (Noon Smiles) 1963; Venec na zemjata (Wreath on the Ground) 1968; Trski (Reeds) 1975; Premin (Passage) 1982; Ubava uteha (Nice Comfort) 1989; Kakol 1978; Nekoj kopa na moeto celo (Somebody Digs on My Forehead) 1999 (selection in Macedonian); Zdravica za zaboravenite neshta (A Toast for the Forgotten Things) 2000. His novels and short stories have been dramatized and filmed. Awards: Best novel of the year for Wounds, 1975; first place in the novel competition in 1989 for the novel Wave (Prishtina).
