Milcho Manchevski (1953)
has directed over fifty
experimental films, documentaries, music videos, commercials. He won awards for
the best experimental film in the Belgrade Alternative Festival (for 1.73),
best MTV video, best video by Rolling Stone (for "Tennessee," with Arrested
Development). He also wrote and directed the feature films Before The Rain
and Dust. Before The Rain won thirty awards at international
festivals, including best film in Venice, David di Donatello, Independent Spirit
in USA, Golden Bug in Sweden, a Best Foreign Film Academy Award nomination, etc.
He has published fiction and essays in New American Writing, La Republica,
Corriere della Sera, Sineast, etc. He has staged performance art with the group
1AM, and by himself. He authored a book of fiction, Duhot na majka mi (The
Ghost Of My Mother) and a book of photographs Ulica (Street),
accompanying the photo exhibition of the same title, which appeared in
Macedonia, Sweden, and Italy. He lives in New York City and Skopje.
